He was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Anderson, to Adam Sr. and Lavina Mae (Booth) Burton. Adam retired from Airfoil Textron Corporation (Ex-Cell-O Corp.) in Elwood in 1989 after 33 years of service.
He grew up in the Moonsville area, and attended Richland Township schools. He married Mary Frances Flowers on Sept. 6, 1942. Adam was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Elwood; a volunteer firefighter and last surviving founding member of Pipe Creek Township Fire Dept. He formerly worked at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery as a caretaker for 20 years. Adam was seen daily socializing in Elwood at many local restaurants and his son's business, Barnyard Greenhouse. He never knew a stranger and will be greatly missed.
Adam's family includes two sons, David (Janie) Burton and Kenyon (Connie) Burton, all of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Karen (Mel) Burton-Fletcher of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and son, Delbert Burton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Ken Horning officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pipe Creek Fire Department will proudly provide fireman honors for Adam.
