Andrew "Andy" Sandala passed away in the presence of his loving family on Nov. 8, 2018, after a brief illness.
Andy was born on Nov. 12, 1926, in Gary, Indiana, to first generation immigrants, Michael and Maria Sandala.
He was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Mary Ann and Maria Ann; and by his 12 siblings.
Andy graduated from Froebel High School in 1946 and joined the United States Air Force and served from 1948-1952. He was stationed at Erding Air Force Base in Germany. Andy played football, baseball and basketball representing the Air Force, which brought entertainment and encouragement to the troops.
After his time in the service, Andy attended Ball State Teacher's College where he met and married his college sweetheart Susann Theresa Dickman Sandala. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past month.
Andy is also survived by his five children, Beth (Steve) Sweet, Nancy (Chris) Allen, Ron (Ruthie) Sandala, Jill (Jon) Johnson, and Scott (Dawna) Sandala; as well as, nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous Godchildren.
Andy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Edgewood Country Club.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Primrose Retirement Community of Anderson and Heartland Hospice Care of Indianapolis for their loving care.
Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 16, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl St., Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Heartland Hospice Care at 931 E. 86th St., Suite 208, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
