Barbara Lee Quinn Wood, 88, Alexandria, passed away on May 2, 2017, at Community Hospital of Anderson, surrounded by her loving family following a very brief illness.
She was born on April 23, 1929, in Marion, to Marjorie (Mulberry) Scott and Carey Zimmer Scott. Barbara was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1947. Barbara and her late husband Sherman Quinn operated Quinn's Inn restaurant in Alexandria for more than 35 years. She married Roy Wood in 1997 and retired to Punta Gorda, Fla., until returning to Alexandria in 2011.
Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Alexandria, Alexandria Business and Professional Women, Omega Nu Tau sorority, and the Eagles Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler for many years and she and Sherman enjoyed square dancing.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Linda (Dennis) Engle of Madison, Ind., Kathy (Marlin) Collier of Alexandria, Richard (DeNelda) Quinn of Summitville, and Larry (Lois) Quinn of Wesley Chapel, Fla. Also surviving are her brother, Richard (Joy) Scott of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two stepchildren, Rick (Nancy) Wood and Melanie (Duane) Gibson of Alexandria; along with seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Sherman Quinn in 1988, and Roy Wood in 2013, and her sister Mary Jane Kay in 2014.
Services honoring Barbara's life and legacy will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 2107 Park Ave., Alexandria. Pastor Michael Deutsch will officiate. Friends may call at the First Baptist Church after 1 p.m. on Friday prior to the services. Cremation will follow the services. Graveside services in Park View Cemetery will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, with envelopes available at the church.
