Barbara's Story

Text size

Barbara Ann "Sissy" Reed, 80, formerly of Anderson, passed away Feb. 21, 2018, at her home in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born on May 10, 1937, in Canalou, Missouri.
Barbara graduated from Alexandria High School in 1954. She retired in 1983 from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors after 18 years of service. Barbara shattered the glass ceiling at Guide, holding some very non-traditional roles for females during her tenure.
In retirement, Barbara moved to Naples, Florida, where she owned and operated a franchise business and was later instrumental in establishing a residential coop community for active senior living, Holiday Manor Coop. She was also a founding partner in the Pelican Creek Investment Group, a real estate holding corporation. Barbara was a voracious reader, accomplished Toastmaster, and enjoyed traveling - especially on cruises. She was an avid card player who enjoyed playing euchre, pinochle, bridge, and others. A true competitor, it was nearly impossible to beat her at a game of Scrabble. Barbara also enjoyed cooking meals big enough to feed an army for her friends and her family.
Barbara is survived by her children, Sherry Cain of Anderson, Michelle Marquand of Pontiac, and Andy Reed of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Elizabeth Blankinship; husband, Bobby Reed; children, Teresa Garrison, Christine Wooldridge, Mary Kay Talbert; brothers, Charles Blankinship, William Blankinship, and Warren Blankinship.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, Indiana.
Services will be Saturday, March 3, 2018, 11:30 a.m.
Entombment will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park, immediately following services.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home and memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Cancer Center.
