Bernidene A. Mitchem

Bernidene A. Mitchem, 91, of Anderson, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 1, 2016, after an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Lexington, S.C., to Calvin and Julia Anderson. Bernidene shared a lifelong union to James R. Mitchem. This union created one child and two grandchildren.
Bernidene accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She joined Allen Chapel A.M.E under the leadership of Rev. J.R. Keys. She owned and operated Bernie's Beauty Room for many years. Later in life, she was employed with Delco Remy where she retired after 20 years of service.
She loved listening to gospel music, was an avid sports fan, played pokeno and enjoyed singing. Her favorite past time was spending weekends at the lakes.
Bernidene lived life to its fullest with many memories to be shared by her son, James G. (companion, Lisa) Mitchem; her grandchildren, Lacey (Khola) Watson, Adrianna and Vincent Lark; her great-grandchildren, Kavion and Kennedi Watson; and her surviving siblings, Ellerene Taylor, Ruby Boulware, Mamie Pugh, Benjamin (Patrica) Mitchem, and Harold (Jannie) Mitchem.
Bernidene was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Julia Anderson; her husband, James; grandson, James IV; one sister, Lattie; and two brothers, Calvin and Raymond. Bernidene was a matriarch of her family and left behind a legacy that her friends and family will forever cherish.
