Billy B. Hobbs, 82, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at his home following a battle with heart disease.
He was born on August 18, 1935, in Dryden, Virginia to Rando and Laura (Mullins) Hobbs.
Billy retired in 1994 from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after 30 years of employment.
He was a member of the Lapel Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the Lapel Lions Club, and participated in several bowling leagues. He was a woodcraftsman and had made several sets of cabinets, grandfather clocks and many other fine pieces.
The Hillbillys last meal was beans and cornbread.
Billy is survived by his wife of 62 years Lavonne (Brantlinger); two daughters, Debbie (Bill) Jarvis and Penny (Jim) Hormell both of Lapel; four grandchildren, Aaron Jarvis, Barbara Myrick, Billy Jarvis, and Ronnie Jarvis; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Hobbs; three brothers, Virgil (Carol) Hobbs, Jerry (Mary) Hobbs, and Charles (Janie) Hobbs; a sister-in-law, Janet Hobbs; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Becky Orbik; three grandchildren, Darrell Jarvis, Dana Jarvis, and Donnie Jarvis; two brothers, Ralph and Gail Hobbs; and a sister, Lou Ann Hobbs.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Rev.s Richard Cole and Glenn Knepp officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 10, 2017, at the funeral home.
