Carroll "Coody" Lee Coates, 91, of Lake Placid, Florida, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, in Ocala, Florida.
Carroll was born April 20, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas, to Marshall and Lois (Davis) Coates. He was a member of the Greatest Generation and served in the Navy during WWII.
On June 10, 1944 he married Wilma Eileen Hunt in Anderson, Indiana. They were married for 61 years.
He was employed by Sears for 37 years as a salesman. After retiring, he spent part of his time in Lake Placid, Florida, with his wife before finally moving there full time in 2002. He enjoyed reading, golfing, fishing and loved spending time recounting stories with friends and family.
Carroll is survived by his two sons, Ronald Lee Coates and his wife Carolin (Wierenga) of Naperville, Illinois, and Randall Kent Coates and his wife Mollie (Jackson) of Ocala, Florida; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Wilma Eileen (Hunt) Coates in 2005; and his brother Gareth Elman Coates in 1997.
Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson, with a memorial service held at a later date.
