Edna Ruth Swain Edna C. Swain was born July 18, 1936, in Alpine, Alabama, to Clemson and Ruby Jones Calhoun. Edna graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955 and later attended Clover College in Charlotte, North Carolina, studying nursing.
She was united in matrimony to Robert D. Swain in 1955. To this union three children were born, Charles Swain, Teresa Swain and the late Yvonne Swain.
Edna was employed at Guide Lamp, a division of General Motors, where she retired after 33 years of service. Edna confessed to Christ at an early age and joined New Hope United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and sang in the Senior Choir until her health declined. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club, UAW 663, and the Olive Chapter-Order of the Eastern Star.
Edna, age 82, departed this life Dec. 30, 2018, at St. Vincent Anderson Hospital after a brief illness.
Edna leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Charles Swain; one daughter, Teresa Swain; four brothers, Clemson (Barbara) Calhoun, Henry Calhoun, Larry Calhoun, Lawrence ( Bettye) Calhoun; five sisters, Juliette (James) McIntosh, Surena (Allen) Strudwick, Lafayette (Rick) Paschall, Lucinda (Robert) Sampson, and Jeannetta Jones; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
A Celebration of Life will begin at noon Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at New Hope United Methodist Church. Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow, Anderson Memorial Park.
