Florence was born May. 23, 1934 in New Castle, Ind., to the late Joseph and Florence Smith and was a graduate of Chrysler High School in New Castle. Florence most of her life was a homemaker, a devoted mother of her five children, and was later employed at American Family Tree as a housekeeper. She was a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board. Florence enjoyed rummaging and spending time with family and friends.
Florence leaves to cherish her memories daughters Laura (Benard) Johnson, Pamela Smith; Sons John Smith, Mark Smith; Sisters Margaret Smith, Phyllis Cosby both of New Castle; brother, Michael Smith of New Castle; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Harold Smith, Son Sterling Smith; Sisters Betty Jo English, Laura Smith, Charolette Smith, Membrance Menear; Brothers David Smith, Richard Smith, George Smith and son-in-law Rev. Gerald Peak.
Service will be held noon Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 230 W. 14th St., with Rev. William O'neal officiating and burial at Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation from 10 a.m. to noon prior to service.
