Fredrick William Stewart, 81, resident of Middletown, passed away Sept. 4, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of Fred and Emma Middleton Stewart. He retired as an ironworker from Manor Brothers Construction.
He was a member of the American Legion SAL for 36 years and served as first vice president. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 22 for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Hensley) Stewart; two children, Vernon of New Castle and Melissa Chandler (Phil) of Middletown; five grandchildren, Jake, Trevor (Kaleigh) and Courtney Stewart, and Carly and Candy Chandler; brother, Jimmy Wilder; four sisters, Freda Neff, Etta Bennett, Sue Hensley and Isha Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dale; and two brothers.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. Fifth St., Middletown, with Pastor Marty Ballard officiating.
Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
