Genevieve Johnston Sayre, 97, passed away at Vermillion Place in Anderson following a brief illness.
She was born on March 3, 1920 in Delaware County to earl and Mattie (Stephenson) Mohler. She has lived in the Alexandria area most of her lifetime and was a graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1937. She attended Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie. She has worked at the former Aladdin Industries, as an elementary school teacher's aide and for the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a member of the former Alexandria Order of the Eastern Star. Genevieve dedicated a large portion of her life to the Alexandria Christian Congregation Church and especially the Ladies' Aid of the church.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie (Kim) Johnston of Alexandria and Doug Johnston of Anderson; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Louis (Martha) Mohler of Phoenix, Arizona; stepdaughter, Helen (Mike) Jackson of Georgetown, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 46 years-Raymond R. Johnston in 1991, her second husband of 21 years-Harold Sayre in 2015, a sister-Mary Rinker, a great-granddaughter-Taylor Thurber, a step-daughter-Wilma Sayre
Services honoring Genevieve's life and legacy will take place at 6 pm on Friday, November 10, 2017 in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Private family interment will take place in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, prior to the services.
