Harold L. Bannister Sr., 69, died Dec. 26, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital Anderson.
Harold was born on Nov. 6, 1948, to Anna Marie (Maxwell) Bannister and Ellison Bannister in Anderson.
Harold received his education from Anderson High School, Ivy Tech Community College and various seminars from General Motors and Local 663 United Auto Workers. He retired from Guide Division of General Motors and Allison Transmission of Indianapolis.
Harold was an avid champion of civil rights and served on the Civil Rights Committee of UAW Local 663. He was a member of the Peerless Lodge of the Masonic Lodge 32, where he was the past master; a member of the Elks Lodge 772 and served as the Exalted Ruler; and was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of Anderson. He was also a member of Church Upon The Rock, Pastor Anthony D. Harris.
Harold leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Eula Merlene Bannister; sons, Harold L. Bannister Jr. and Christopher Davis; brothers, Carrol L. Bannister and David Bannister, of Indianapolis; sisters, Katherine (Stephen) Jones, Anderson, Anna L. (Rick) Mills, Nashville, Tenn., Marcille Bannister, Indianapolis, and Allonia Lynch, Anderson; sisters-in-law, Ann Johnson, Columbus, Ohio, and Vicki Baxter, Anderson; grandchildren, Gerard Davis, Antionette Bannister, Kiara Bannister, Harold L. Bannister III, Tiazha Bannister and Darius Simon, all of Anderson, Amber Davis, Decatur, AL, Harrel (Michael) Anderson of Indianapolis, and Hope Foster of Alexandria; 13 great-grandchildren; one god great- grandson; special friends, John Graves Sr., Willie Archie Cotton, Mervin Jones and John Bostic Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna M. and Ellison Bannister, and son, Anthony D. Slaughter.
Services will be noon Wednesday at Anderson Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Reverend J.T. Menifee St., Anderson. Visitation one hour prior to service, with the Pastor Anthony D. Harris officiating.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with Masonic Rights at 7 p.m.
