Harson's Story

Harson Jackson, 70, of Brunswick, Ga., passed away July 23, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
Harson was born in Money, Miss., on August 10, 1946 to Horace and Ophelia Jackson. He was a graduate of Anderson High School, Ivy Tech, General Motors Tool Maker Apprentice program and General Motors School of Robotics Engineering. He retired from General Motors in 1996 as a Plant Superintendent. He and his brothers Sylvester and John established Tri-J Home Improvement Co. in 1996 and retired from it in 2007.
He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, Peerless Lodge, Anderson Black Expo and Men of Faith of Brunswick, Ga. He was recognized by several community groups for his service.
Harson managed Spyce Band and worked with several musicians and singers to help develop their talent. He was a volunteer softball coach at Brentwood Little League and coached the state champion Ebony Stars softball team.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 51 years, Cynthia Jackson; his children Harrison (Jalona) Jackson and Teresa (Israel) Jackson; grandchildren Champagne Douglas, Jarrett Jackson, Keaundre (Emily) Peak, Tamesha (Christopher) Armour, Tyler (Chelsea) Jackson, Taj Jackson, Aja Jackson and Ahmira Jackson; great-grandchildren Nevaeh Payne, Essence Jackson, Aniyah Armour, Ahmad Jackson, Jaden Peak, J'la Jackson and Mia Peak; bonus grandchildren Rondale (Lydia) Broome, Rico Lozada, Jai Jackson and Genesis Broome; siblings Nora Boyd, John (Annie) Jackson, Ella Dunson, Horace Jackson Jr., Dorothy McGrady, Sylvester Jackson, Willie B Jackson and Dr. Lardie (Mario) Elcock; sisters-in-law, Victoria Burney, Deborah Nunn and Cheryl (Lawrence) Kayzer; brother-in-law, John Brooks; several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony Slaughter; siblings, Bernice Brooks, Jerline Parker; and Delano Jackson; father- and mother-in-law, Theodore and Marietta Wrigh; brothers-in-law, Bill Boyd and Josh McGrady.
Services will be noon Thursday at Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday.
