Jackie Ray Garrison passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at I.U. Health/Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, following a brief illness.
Jack was born July 16, 1935, in Elwood, to Jack and Mary (Jacobs) Garrison. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School near Atlanta, Indiana, in 1953.
He served in the National Guard for 10 years. He worked as an electrician at Guide Lamp in Anderson retiring in 1991 after 37 years. Jack farmed in Gaston where he once raised Angus cattle. He also owned several rental properties.
After retirement, Jack enjoyed wintering in Estero, Florida. Always very athletic, he became an avid tennis player and played regularly both in Florida and at the YMCA in Muncie until his death.
Jack was a loving husband, a devoted and caring father and a proud grand- and great- grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with and helping his family however he could as well as watching his grandchildren play sports. Jack was hardworking, active and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a devoted Christian and served his local churches in various ministries over the years. He currently attended Grace Baptist Church in Muncie.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 24 years, Rose (Tiplady-Carle) Garrison; three children, Debbie (husband, Chuck) Cooper, Muncie, Mike (wife, Lisa) Garrison, Gaston, and Brad (wife, Karen) Garrison, Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Holly (husband, Joe) Journay, Tyler Garrison, Devin Garrison, Darin (wife, Mallory) Garrison, and Sarah, Julia, Katherine, Benjamin, and Josiah Garrison; great-grandchildren, Joe Journay II, Jayla and Charlee Journay, and Trenor and Harper Garrison; as well as three stepsons, David, Donnie, Doug, and their families.
Services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Grace Baptist Church, 6401 W. River Road, Muncie, IN 47304. Private burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
