James F. Stevens Sr.


James F. Stevens Sr., 84, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 19, 1934, in Elwood, to Robert and Emma (Tulowitzky) Stevens and has resided in Alexandria for most of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1952.
Jim retired from Delco Remy in 1993 as a pipefitter after 40.5 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior in Alexandria. He was also a member of UAW-Local 662 and Alexandria Eagles 1771. Jim loved to ride his Harley and enjoyed country music and line dancing. Jim loved his family dearly, and the time he spent with them was very precious to him.
He is survived by his wife, Meria K. (Elbert) Stevens to whom he was married 64 years; daughters, Kathy (Garry) Dwiggins and Peggy Cox; son, James F. (Cathy) Stevens Jr.; grandchildren, Amy Zink, Zach (Jen) Dwiggins, Agy (Corbin) Barbee, Ali (Justin) Sowash, Josh (Katharine) Cox, Tyler Cox (Bailey Gorman), Caleb (Morgan) Cox, Jason (Brooke) McPhearson, Nick Brady; great-grandchildren, Zoe Zink, Riley Zink, Emma Dwiggins, Eleanor Dwiggins, Layne Barbee, Rayne Barbee, Lennon Sowash, Lukas Cox, Lily Cox, Ezra Fredric Cox, Aisah McGuire and Kaleb McGuire; brother, Bob (Judy) Stevens; sister, Linda (Gary) Howerton; sisters-in-law, Alma Elbert and Darlene Elbert; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emma Stevens; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Claude and Deana Elbert; sisters-in-law, Alice Draper, Martha Cox, Mona Elbert and Margery Elbert; brothers-in-law, Andrew C. Elbert Jr., Arthur L. Elbert Sr., John Elbert Sr. and Tom Elbert Sr.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services honoring Jim's life, legacy and faith will take place on Monday, June 3, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior, 309 W. Washington St., Alexandria, with Pastor Kal Rissman officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. or after 9 a.m. on Monday at the church preceding the service. The Alexandria Eagles will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 Sunday at the funeral home to close the calling hours.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors that helped Jim through his many years of heart disease including Doctors Roblenski, Gelfman, Feldman, Jetty and Angie Howald, NP-BC. Also, special thanks to Home Health Care, Hospice and many other caregivers.

Sorry to hear of your passing JIM. I was just made aware of it just this month of JULY by a fellow high school class mate . We shared many good times while growing up in our younger days . My sincere condolence to your family. you will be sorely missed by all those who ever crossed your path. RIP.
