Janice S. Barnes


Janice S. Barnes, 73, of Elwood, died Feb. 11, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Elwood, to Robert and Beatrice (Benefiel) Decker. Janice was a sales associate at the Elwood K-mart store for 14 years, and previously worked at Carter's Supermarket and J. Lewis Small Co. in Elwood.
She was a 1960 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and married Luther "Luke" Barnes on Nov. 24, 1962. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital; active in the Red Hat Society as a Queen Mother; and enjoyed traveling and cooking.
Janice's family includes her husband, Luther Barnes of Elwood; two sons, David Barnes of Elwood, and Dean (Cheryl) Barnes of Beavercreek, Ohio; two brothers, Robert (Ruth Ann) Decker of Elwood, and Jerry (Jeanie) Decker of Elwood; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, and will include a St. Vincent Volunteer Memorial Service at 5 p.m.
