Jerry's Story

Jerry Morgan Jr., 82, was born July 18, 1935, in Barnwell, South Carolina, and passed away March 10, 2018, at Community Northview Care Center.
He was the son of Jerry Morgan Sr. and Ella Mae (Jones) Morgan. In Anderson, he was educated at Roosevelt Elementary School and Anderson High School and in Indianapolis at Indiana Central College.
He was employed at Delco Remy, Division of General Motors, in various positions and retired after 39 years. He was a longtime active member, vital supporter, and officer in the NAACP organization. He was baptized as a child at Anderson Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful lifelong member.
He is survived by his loving family of children, Charles Morgan, Dr. Larry Morgan Jones-El, Jerry Morgan III, Leonard Morgan Sr. (Beverly), Jeanetta Hughley Bennett, Donna Morgan Horton (Bryant), Bonita Morgan, Jennie Morgan, Lonnie Morgan, and Richard Morgan; stepchildren, Vertie Jones Jr., Georgine Campbell, Gloria Keith, and Robin Scott; brothers, Robert "Leroy" Morgan, Marvin Morgan Sr. (Maybelle), Frank Morgan Sr., Gregory Morgan, Donald Jones, Harry Morgan (Rita), and David Morgan; sister, Lucille Bailey; 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several cousins; host of nephews and nieces; and special friends, including former wife, Barbara Morgan Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean (Keith) Morgan; parents, Jerry Sr. and Ella Mae Morgan; daughter, Jane Ann Morgan (Barbara); stepson, David Wayne Lawson (Shirley); brothers, Richard "Dick" Morgan, Fred "Rico" Morgan Sr., Jimmy "Morganno" Morgan Sr.; and sisters, Rhonda Jones and Artelia Morgan Hamilton.
The family extends special thanks to Community Northview Care Center's caring staff and Central Indiana Neurology's Dr. Caroline Stevens, DO, of Anderson.
Services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Anderson Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson, with the Rev. L.D. Clay officiating and Rev. Tracy Streeter eulogizing. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon with funeral immediately following. Burial will take place in Pleasant Walk Cemetery, Anderson.
