ALEXANDRIA - Jimmy Dois Garner, 79, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Community Hospital of Anderson after a sudden illness.
He was born on April 9, 1938 in Caddo Gap, Arkansas, to Roy and Bessie (Huggins) Garner, and has lived in Alexandria the past 52 years. Jimmy was a graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1956 where he was named valedictorian.
He was a member of Alexandria Eagles Lodge 1771. He retired from Delco Remy in 1991 after 33 years of employment. Jimmy has been an avid bowler for more than 40 years and bowled that perfect "300" game in 1972. He also enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Cleaver) Garner, whom he married April 11, 1958; son, Jamie (Teri) Garner of Alexandria; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Pruett of Anderson; grandsons, Michael Jonas Murray of Anderson, Logan (Vanessa) Garner of Astoria, Oregon, and Benjamin Murray of Anderson; granddaughters, Megan (Tim) Ballard and Kaitlin Garner, all of Bloomington; great-grandchildren, Oliver Garner of Hahn, Silas Ballard and Maren Ballard; brother, Ray (Pam) Garner of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Jerry Davis in Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, William and Bertha Mae Cleaver; brother, Cecil Garner; sister, Lena Davis; brothers-in-law, Robert Cleaver, John Record, and Sherman Hurst; and sisters-in-law, Betty Record, Gloria Cleaver and Mary Lou Hurst.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Alexandria Community Center, 315 S. Harrison St. Private inurnment of cremains will take place in the Serenity Columbarium Garden at Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.
