John W. Murray, 89, Anderson, passed away March 8, 2018, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Indianapolis.
John graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama, in 1946.
He retired from Delco Remy.
He was an avid sports fan who loved watch Indiana University basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and the Indianapolis Colts. He also was a coin collector, an Eagle Scout, liked to travel, and especially loved to spend time with his family.
John is survived by the mother of his children, Pattie H. Murray; children, William Murray, David (Mary) Murray, and Kathy (Tom) Spitz; grandchildren, Patrick Murray, Erin (Jeremy) Spicer, Jessica Gore, and Zachary (Amy) Day; stepgrandchildren, Bradley Spitz, Steven Spitz, and Olivia Spitz; and six wonderful great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his two beloved cats, Oreo and Ebony.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Murray; and parents, John D. and Blanche Murray.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurse, Pam, and his social worker, Kelly, for all their love and care.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
Services will follow visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Zirkle officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
