Jon Merrick Walker, 79, of Kissimmee, Florida, died Oct. 30, 2017, at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, Florida, following complications from surgery,
He was born to John and Alice Walker (Merrick) in Anderson, Feb. 7, 1938.
He graduated from Anderson High School in 1956 and was the first drum major of the Anderson Marching Indians. He then attended Butler University studying Radio, TV and Theater, and then graduated from Anderson College.
He taught junior high school for several years in the Vandalia-Butler School System in Vandalia, Ohio.
He was the co-owner and operator of Cinema-67 Drive-In located in Spencer, Indiana. He had also been co-owner of other movie theaters in Indiana, including Carmel, Indianapolis, Greencastle, Terre Haute, Vincennes, Bloomington, Bedford and Spencer.
He also has served as the president of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Owen County Economic Development Commission, president of the United Drive-In Theater Owners' Association and the president of the Indiana Association of Festivals and Events.
He is survived by his business partner of over 50 years, Ron Reed (Debby) of Spencer and their children Mike Smith (Emily) and daughter Violet; and Joe Smith (Sophie) and daughter Nova, of Kissimmee; his sister, Jody Pierce (Bill) of McCordsville, Indiana; nephew Jonathan Pierce and his children Lizzy and Kacy Jo Pierce; and his cuddly puppy buddy, Bear.
Plans are being made for a Celebration of Life to be held next summer at the Tivoli Theater in Spencer, Indiana.
Osceola Crematory, LLC of Kissimmee, Florida, are in charge of the cremation.
