Joseph Daniel 'JD' Lawler

Joseph Daniel "JD" Lawler, 77 passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at his home after enjoying a beautiful day outdoors in God's countryside with his loving wife.
Danny was born on June 1, 1942, in Anderson, to Charles and Elna Mae (Castor) Lawler, and has lived in Madison County all of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Highland High School Class of 1960. He attended Purdue University and graduated from United Electronics School in Louisville, Kentucky. Danny started with the Madison County Co-Op which later became AG One Co-Op as a semi driver. Later on he managed the Frankton terminal. He retired from Harvest Land Co-op in 2015 after 44 years of continuous employment. In his early years, Danny was a Democrat Precinct Committeeman in Richland Township. This was a responsibility that he took seriously. After working his precinct, the voter turnout was so high that he received an invitation to attend the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. The invitation is a memento that he has treasured all of these years. He was also a member and past president of the Frankton Planning Commission and was instrumental in starting the Frankton Comprehensive Plan. Active in Madison County 4-H, Danny was awarded the Grand Champion Hereford Steer in 1958 at the county fair. He loved farming, driving a semi, fishing and anything that had to do with the great outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Kandye (Medley (Lawler) whom he married Dec. 21, 1984; daughters, Teresa (Carl) Lehman of Alexandria, Michelle (Jason) Shaw of Sulphur Springs, and Leisa (Roy) Betz of Frankton; sons, Tim Lawler of Frankton, Mike (Melissa) Lawler of Fort Wayne, and Craig (Dana) Green of Anderson; mother, Elna Mae Lawler of Summitville; sister, Nancy Lawler of Summitville; brother, David (Lois) Lawler of Alexandria; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were all a blessing to him.
JD was preceded in death by his father, Charles Lawler in 1995; and his sister, Lucretia Lawler, April 13, 2019.
Services honoring Danny's life and legacy will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Hilligoss officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Friends may call the Owens Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Friday prior to the services. Interment of cremains will take place in Nelson Cemetery in Richland Township at the convenience of the family.
