Joy DeLisle Plummer

June 17, 1964 - October 20, 2018

Patricia "Joy" DeLisle Plummer passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, after battling with cancer. Joy was born June 17, 1964, in Kenya, Africa, to Bill and Kathy (Smith) DeLisle while they were working for the newly independent Kenyan government. She grew up on a cattle ranch just south of Bingham, Nebraska.
Joy attended Bingham Elementary School and graduated in 1982 from Hyannis High School in Hyannis, Nebraska. While in high school she was active in drama, band and many other activities. Her senior year she was the editor of the yearbook and drum major for the band. She graduated from Anderson College, Indiana, in 1986 with a degree in secondary education, specializing in English and theater. After having several leading roles as well as stage management college experience, Joy had a lifelong passion for the performing arts.
Joy's life was dedicated to serving the Lord by caring for those in need. Her heart was especially open to those whom society ignored, neglected or marginalized.
From 1999 to 2003, Joy and her family served the Church of God (Anderson) as missionaries to the Massai in Tanzania. While there, she was ordained by the Church of God in Tanzania. Joy served as the director of Operation Love in Anderson for 10 years and was an active member of South Meridian Church of God. In 2014 she moved to Liberal, Kansas, to be pastor of the South Church of God. Returning to Muncie in June 2016 to address her health, she was active at Maple Grove Church of God, teaching children and serving others.
Joy was dedicated to her two children, Claire and Seth. She loved all animals, family gatherings, decorating and helping others. Her kind heart, loving spirit and Godly compassion affected many people. To the end she was praying for those around her. Even in death she was giving as she donated her body to the IU School of Medicine.
Joy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Lavera (Morgan) Smith; grandmother, Mary McCarty (husband, Herb); and grandfather, Earl DeLisle.
She is survived by her parents, Bill and Kathy (Smith) Delisle; her brother, Steve DeLisle (wife, Tina); her son, Seth Plummer; daughter, Claire Plummer Swier (husband, Chris); nephew, Ben DeLisle; and niece, Kelly DeLisle.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Maple Grove Church of God, 2729 E. 38th St., Anderson, IN 46013, (765) 644-7532, on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.

I am so sorry to learn of Joy's passing. I knew her several years ago and I am gladdened to know she did make it back to Africa as a part of her ministry. She was a fine person.
