Katherine "Kathie" R. King-Ell peacefully ended her four-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, as she slept at Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albany.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1955, in Indianapolis.
Kathie graduated from Pendleton Heights High School in 1973 and lived her life first as a stay-at-home mom, then as a preschool teacher, and finally, as a cafeteria worker.
She enjoyed several years bringing happiness into the lives of the children of Alexandria in the "Train Depot" of the Alexandria Church of God. She also entertained young and old alike as "I.B. Special" with the clowns of Clowns and Company.
She spent her later years working in the cafeteria of Community Hospital Anderson, where she was loved by all who knew her.
Kathie is survived by her children, Donita (Wayne) Drake of Eaton, Jacob (Amanda) King of Maryville, Tennessee, and JoAnna (Christopher) Moore of Galveston, whom she shared with former spouse Donald King. Survivors also include her grandson, Malachi Moore; granddaughter, Vala Moore; brothers, Mike Saunders and Paul Bruce; sister, Evelyn Brown; lifelong friend and cousin, Bernard Williams; daughter-in-love Cynthia Neff; and sister-in-love, Patricia King.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ell; her mother, Dorothy Bruce; mother-in-love, Joyce King; sisters, Norma-Jean Bruce and Dixie Brown; brother, Floyd Bruce; and her beloved Maltese, Yanni.
Visitation concluding with a short service will be held at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services in Anderson on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m.
