Larry R. Scott

May 29, 1938 - December 25, 2018

Larry R. Scott Larry R. Scott, 80, of Alexandria, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Dec. 25, 2018, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis, after an extended illness.
Larry was born in Alexandria on May 29, 1938, and was the son of Richard G. and Pearl M. (Crum) Scott. On Oct. 18, 1959, he married Karen M (Cunningham) Scott. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School and the Indiana College of Mortuary Science.
Larry had been a licensed funeral director for 50 years. He started his career with the Rozelle Funeral Home in Anderson. He then joined John Noffze for 35 years of serving families in the Alexandria and Summitville area. After a brief retirement, he joined the staff at Whetsel Funeral Service, where he continued his service of compassion for the many families who have come to depend on him in their time of need.
Prior to his career in funeral service, Larry owned and operated his insurance agency and monument business and helped his father with a shoe store and candy shop.
Larry was a loyal and faithful member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church. He also held memberships in the Madison County Funeral Directors Association, the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and Alexandria Kiwanis and was a former member of the Jaycees.
There were two main passions in Larry's life. He loved and adored his family and always enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. His other passion was working at the funeral home, always checking on every detail, making sure that the families were well served and greeting his many, many friends who called at the funeral home.
Those left to carry on Larry's legacy of love and devotion are his wife of 59 years, Karen M (Cunningham) Scott; his daughters, Brenda (Monty) McMahan of Arlington and Amy (Tom) Cox of Goshen; and his sisters, Donna Welborn of Anderson and Judy Lane of Alexandria. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sydney Cox, Faith Cox, Mateo Cox, Scott McMahan and Ricky (Michael) Shackleford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Peyton Marie Cox.
A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, with Rev. Michael Deutsch as Celebrant. Cremation will follow. Friends are invited to call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001 or in care of the funeral home.
The Whetsel family is honored to celebrate Larry's life with his family and community.

My brother, Gary Vestal, was also a Tyler Street childhood friend to Larry. Gary and Larry were also very close throughout grade and high school. On behalf of myself and my brother, may God bless all of Larry's family. Larry helped look after God's children in their time of need on earth; God will look upon you now in your sorrow.
