Lloyd E. Montz, 100, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Community Northview Care Center, Anderson.
He was born on Dec. 22, 1916, in Whitley County, a son of the late Clarence and Susie (Bentz) Montz. He grew up in Washington Township, Whitley County and graduated from Washington Center High School.
On March 21, 1937, he married Kathryn M. Bolinger. They made their home on a farm in Washington Township until 1976 when they retired to Cherokee Village, Ark. In 2003 they returned to Columbia City. Mrs. Montz died March 25, 2006.
He was a career-long farmer. In his retirement he became a Master Gardener. When not gardening he could be found chopping wood or doing yard work.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Harris of Placentia, Calif., and Lorraine (Gary) Keith; a son, Nelson Montz of Anderson; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a foster child, James Ray; and a sister, Lucille Gipson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Community Northview Care Center, Anderson, or the donor's choice.
