Margaret's Story

Margaret Kay (Kinnaman) Sims, 82, of Anderson, left to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, after a short illness.
Kay was born on Feb. 19, 1934, one of 12 brothers and sisters to William and Margaret (Hiner) Hight and lived in Madison County most of her lifetime.
She was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1953 and she continued to meet monthly with her classmates. She was a member of the Frankton United Methodist Church and the Frankton Home Builders Club.
This nationally known poet authored four poetry books and she judged poetry contests on the state, regional and national levels. She was the Poet Laureate in 1985 and received many state and national awards. She edited the Indiana Poetry Federation newsletter, "Strophies" for 19 years. She kept writing poetry up to the last and enjoyed sharing her love of poetry with everyone.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Sims of Anderson; three sons, Mark Kinnaman of Fairmount, Mike Kinnaman of Alexandria, and Larry Kinnaman of Frankton; daughter, Linda Kelly of Anderson; grandchildren, Jacob Kinnaman, Marrisa Skaggs, Dena Rae Miller and Jamie Spritzer; three great-grandchildren; seven siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
Services honoring Kay's life and legacy will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Kay's son, Mark Kinnaman, will officiate. Interment will follow in the K of P-IOOF Cemetery in Frankton.
