Text size

Mary V. Chesher, 96, passed away at home on Dec. 6, 2017.
She was born in Ingalls, Indiana, to Charles and Esther (Clem) Valentine on Oct. 29, 1921.
Mary was involved in her son's Soap Box Derby races and followed him to watch him race at many locations. She enjoyed crocheting. She had a special place in her heart for rescue pets, adopting her pet Hope from hurricane Katrina. She liked to watch college sports and was an IU fan and went to a few Colts games. She really enjoyed genealogy.
Mary retired from Delco Remy in 1974. She was a giving person who liked the simple life.
Left to treasure Mary's memory are her children, Roger (Beth) Wiseman, Denny Wiseman, Peggy Barcus, and Adrian Chesher; siblings, Violet Mann, Gene (Betty) Valentine, Irene (Norman) Davis, and Doris Ireton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and one on the way; many extended family members; and her four-legged companions, Maude, the dog, and Tom, the cat.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph "Chester" Chesher; several siblings from the Valentine clan; son-in-law, Gary Barcus; brothers-in-law, Jim Mann and Jessie Ireton; and her precious Hope.
The family wishes to thank Grace at Home for their loving care and the neighbors of Lincoln Road for their love and support.
Visitation is Monday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services. The service will begin at 5 p.m. with Pastor John Ray presiding. Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Maplewood Cemetery at 10 a.m.
