Mary's Story

Mary (Albright) Prater, 95, of Anderson, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, in her home.
She was born May 13, 1922, in Arcadia, a daughter of Morton and Kittie (Albright) Allen.
Mary was a 1940 graduate of Arcadia High School. For several years she worked at Stanley Access Systems in Indianapolis and also in physical therapy at Turtle Creek Nursing Home in Anderson.
Mary faithfully attended Grace Holiness Church for over 33 years. She enjoyed playing piano and organ and Search A Word Puzzles. Mary married the love of her life, Norman Prater, on Nov. 25, 1956, and together they cared for many children in their time of need.
Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her loving husband of 61 years, Norman W. Prater Sr.; children, David (Myrna) Hiatt of Anderson, GaLynne (Hugh) Millard of Vanderhoof, British Columbia, Richard (Holly) Hiatt of Mason, Wisconson, Norman (Evelyn) Prater Jr., of Linton, Indiana, Carl Prater of Ocala, Florida, and Crystal (Daniel) Hopkins of Anderson; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Jayne Ann Prater, James Allen Prater and an infant daughter; a sister, Helen Rich; and four brothers, Keith, Kenneth, Kendall and Robert Albright.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Grace Holiness Church, 3325 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Anderson, with Pastor Tim Wiford and the Rev. Buddy Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Cicero Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Grace Holiness Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle.
