Mary's Story

Text size

Mary L. Waymire, 83, of Elwood, took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Heaven on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Community Hospital of Anderson.
She was born Sept. 8, 1933, in Farmland, to Roy and Bessie (Williams) Derrickson. Mary was a 1952 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, and married Von L. Waymire on Sept. 7, 1952.
She was a homemaker and farm wife, and formerly worked at Delco Remy. Mary was always by Von's side on their farm, running tractors, working ground, hauling grain, and cooking meals to bring to the field. Doing all this, she still made time for her children, running Kathy to majorettes or Monte to Boy Scouts. She always put God first, and was a member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure where she was active in the Ladies Aid, nursery care, and any activity where she was needed. She and Von enjoyed spending winter months in Florida for many years, and had traveled to 48 states. Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking; and was especially known for making delicious homemade noodles. Mary was devoted to her family, and will be greatly missed.
Mary's family includes her husband of over 64 years, Von L. Waymire of Elwood; daughter, Kathy A. (Robert, Jr.) Sallee of Elwood; son, Monte B. (Annette) Waymire of Fairmount; two sisters, Wilma Witt of Westchester, Ohio, and (twin sister) Marjorie Spangler of Anderson; nine grandchildren, Patrick Jordan (Katie) Schwab, Mallory (Jake) Gillihan, Jed Waymire, Jeremy Waymire, Jacob Sallee, Jaquelyn Sallee, Dylan Conwell, Jada Vincent, and Brennen Sallee; two great-grandchildren, Riley Gillihan and Hailey Gillihan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and eight siblings, Paul, Loren, Harold, Don, Raymond, John Kenneth "Jackie," and Wanda Derrickson, and Justine Scott.
Funeral services celebrating Mary's life and faith will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harmony Christian Church in Leisure with Pastors Ron Meyer and Charlie Riley officiating. Burial will be in Knox Chapel Cemetery in rural Fairmount.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Harmony Christian Church, and an hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harmony Christian Church or Abundant Life Church, and envelopes will be provided. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
