Merril Cleon Quate, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, July 30, 2017, at Marion General Hospital.
He was born December 23, 1931, in Muncie to Lee and Electra (King) Quate.
Merril had worked for New Venture Gear and Indiana Glass. Merril had also served as a reserve sheriff's deputy for the Delaware County Sheriff's Department. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and was former Commander of the American Legion Post No. 299. Most of all, he was a great father and grandfather. Spending time with his family was always the most important thing to him.
He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to casinos, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hudson Quate, and his former wife of 47 years and mother of his children, Pat Quate. His family includes two daughters, Kathy (Bruce) Wright of Muncie and Janelle Lea of Pendleton; son, Brad (Chris) Quate of Muncie; two sisters, Margie Black and Penny Curtis, both of Muncie; grandchildren, Nicole (Scott) Johnson, Shannon (Stephanie) Wright, Brandie (Mike) Wilber, Kaleigh Quate, Jonathon (Ciara) Irvin, Denny Zook, and Dustin (Sarah) Zook; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Dylan, Alivia, Stella, Bodie, Dalton, and Jayton; and several nieces and nephews.
Merril was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Loraine Long; brothers, Lee Quate, Bob Quate and Jack Quate.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home; 4600 West Kilgore Avenue; Muncie, IN 47304, with Pastors Woody and Emily Sears officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.
Military rites will be conducted by the Delaware County Honor Guard at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park after the services have concluded.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
