Michael R. "Mike" Johnson, 64, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
Mike was born on Oct. 11, 1952, in Elwood, to Robert and Vera (Ebert) Johnson and has lived in the Alexandria-Anderson area all of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1971. He worked for Delco Remy, Guide Lamp and Fisher Body for 32 years, retiring in 2002. Mike loved watching all kinds of sports. His favorite teams were the Cubs, Pacers, Fever, Colts and the Indianapolis Indians. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of Jeff Gordon. Mike held the same Alex Tiger basketball seats for 50 years. "Once a Tiger...always a Tiger."
Survivors include three daughters, Jennifer (Roddy) Haskett of Elwood, and Michelle (Lawrence) Robinson and Sabrina (Randy) Huston, all of Anderson; mother, Vera Johnson of Alexandria; two brothers, Randy (Joyce) Johnson and Tim Johnson, all of Alexandria; grandchildren, Taylor Anderson, Hailey Haskett, Robert Moore, Mariah and Megan Bailey, Sara Gossett and Jessie Huston; great-grandson, Noah Cromer; two nephews, Jeremy (Shelly) Johnson and Marty Johnson; and special friend, Phyllis Moneyhun of Anderson.
Mike was preceded in death by his father; and a grandson, James Lee Gossett II.
Services honoring Mike's life and legacy will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., with Pastor Jerry Young and the Rev. John Hackney officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Because of Mike's love of sports, the family is asking those attending the visitation and services wear sports-themed clothing.
