Penelope's Story

Penelope "Jane" Gray, 72, of Muncie, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, at IU Health/Ball Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Jane was born Oct. 3, 1944, to Myron and Doris Gilmore of Anderson. As a Ball State University student Jane met her future husband Philip. On Nov. 2, 1963, Jane married Philip Gray of New Castle. Together they owned and operated American Pineacre Kennels, retiring in 2007. Jane along with her husband bred Great Danes and Whippets which allowed them the opportunity to travel the world both as exhibitors and judges.
She was a member of the Great Dane Club of America, Hoosier Great Dane Club, and The Muncie Kennel Club. Additionally she loved to garden and was a fabulous cook. She will be remembered for her candidness and love of helping others.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Philip Gray; son, Jordan Gray (Jennifer) of Albany; daughter, Patrice Lawrence (Jeff) of Muncie; three grandchildren, Tristen Lawrence of Muncie, Courtney Gray and Jacob Gray of Albany; also surviving are three sisters, Tamara Leonard of Morgantown, Victoria Poynter of Morgantown, and Stephanie Colson of Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Myron Gilmore and Doris Ruja; her father-in-law and mother-in law, John and Mildred Gray; along with her good friend, Linda Arndt.
Cremation rights and a private service have been arranged per her wishes. A celebration of life will be planned later this spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Great Dane Club of America Charitable Trust or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
