Phyllis E. Kinley


Phyllis E. Kinley, 89, died Saturday, July 6, 2019.
She was born May 30, 1930, in Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of Homer and Ruth Gillespie.
She graduated from Anderson College in 1952; earned a Master of Arts degree from Aznsa Pacific University in 1992 and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Anderson University in 1999. She taught one year at Alberta Bible Institute, Camrose, Alberta before her marriage to Philip Kinley July 20, 1953.
In 1955, she and her husband were commissioned as missionaries to Japan by the Missionary Board of the Church of God, where they served 43 years.
Her roles included pastor, teacher, counselor, choir director, leader of Women's Groups and curriculum writer for the church.
After retiring from Japan in 1998, she resided in Anderson and was a member of Park Place Church of God serving as a meditation group leader. In addition, she continued her writing.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Philip L. Kinley, whom she married July 20, 1953 in Owatonna, Minnesota; a daughter, Susan (Richard) Pease; son, Thomas (Julie) Kinley; granddaughter, Whitney (Brandon) Glidden; grandson, Shane (Olivia) Smith; and three great- grandsons, Mason, Tucker and Tanner; three brothers Gwain, Gayle and Marlyn Gillespie.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. July 18, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
A celebration of her life will be July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Park Place Church of God. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the service with Pastor David Markle officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Park Place Community Center.

We were glad to know Phyllis and appreciated the bits of wisdom she shared with us. We'll be happy to meet her again in our Lord's kingdom.
