Raymond D. "Ray" Hills, 87, of Anderson, died Dec. 23, 2017, after an extended illness.
He was born June 22, 1930, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Harold S. and Alice (Micham) Hills.
He served in the United States Army in the Medical Corps during the Korean War.
He worked for Schleyer Pump Co. from 1959-1966; Warner Gear from 1966 to 1970; then he was a draftsman and engineer at Schwitzer in Indianapolis before retiring in 1995.
Ray graduated from Barberton High School in Ohio, Anderson College with a bachelor's degree and Anderson College School of Theology in 1962. Ray met Martha Susan McVicker on the church bus going from Anderson College to the Church of God congregation now known as Maple Grove Church of God, and they were married at that church on Sept. 9, 1955. They were faithful, extremely active members from 1953 until their respective deaths. Ray loved studying the Bible, particularly in the original Greek and Hebrew. He was a lifelong baseball fan, but also enjoyed watching Colts football.
He is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Marvin (Beth) of Mishawaka, Tom (Teri) of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Jeffrey Hills of Anderson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, on Aug. 6, 2006; and his parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Maple Grove Church of God, 2729 E. 38th St., with Pastor Steve DeLisle officiating. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery, with military graveside rites by Daleville American Legion Post 446.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
