Richard C. Coston, 86, lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.
Richard was born on Oct. 18, 1930, to Aubrey "Gene" and Nathalia "Cricket" (Knopp) Coston. On Aug. 14, 1968, he married Mary Kathryn "Kate" (Ashwill) Coston. Richard served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal on Nov. 25, 1957.
Richard retired in 1987, from Delco Remy after 35 years of service. He was a member of Elwood Church of God and attended Cornerstone Community Church. He was a lifetime and founding member of the Elwood Conservation Club, member of the Elwood VFW and Elwood American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he and his wife loved to go camping.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kate (Ashwill) Coston of Elwood; son, Tim (Erin) Coston of Charleston, South Carolina; daughters, Debbie Frazier, Ginger Wilson, Michelle Wilson, and Shari Coston, all of Elwood; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Max (Sharon) Coston of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Lester; and a sister, Mary Coston.
Funeral service celebrating Richard's life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood, with Pastor Randy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with full military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars American Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood VFW through the funeral home.
