Dick Schattner passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 13, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Delight Schattner; four children, Lori (Mark) Rumreich, Lana (Eric) Haug, Lance (Nicole) Schattner, and Kristy Schattner; eight grandchildren, Marlow and Laine Rumreich, Erica (Andrew) Petroff, Cody Haug, Lucas and Osborn Schattner, Ethan and Alex Taylor; and one great-grandchild, Milo Petroff. Surviving siblings include Bill Schattner and Jane Shroyer.
He is preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Violet Schattner; brother, Bob Schattner; sister, Joan Schattner; daughter, LeighAnn Schattner; and granddaughter, Keri Winningham.
Dick, an Anderson native and Army veteran, worked as a fork lift operator and commercial truck driver for Guide and was a proud UAW Local 663 member. He enjoyed playing sports, roller skating, dancing, and camping. He was president of the Anderson Sunday School Athletic Association for 14 years and organized neighborhood-wide rummage sales.
In retirement, he co-owned a mine-your-own gem shop in Brown County where he kept patrons entertained. Traveling and bird-watching were other favorite hobbies. Dick was a fine storyteller, craftily delivering jokes and tales throughout his 82 years.
