Roy "Gene" Givens, 84, Anderson, was ushered in the arms of Jesus for all eternity on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson following an unexpected illness.
He was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Anderson, the son of Roy E. and Edith (Stottlemyer) Givens. After high school, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Roy Eugene began working in the Delco Remy tool room department of General Motors remaining there for 40 years.
He was a member of Ovid Community Church where he held the position of "usher" for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly (Potts) Givens of Anderson; three children, Michael E. (Kathy) Givens of Anderson, Cynthia Jo (Mike) Griffin of Anderson, and Scott (Tamara Riggs) Givens of Knightstown; two siblings, Kay (Don) Ryan and Bill (Janene) Givens of Markleville; grandchildren, Chris Givens, Michael Griffin, Stephanie (Terrance Washington) Griffin, Derek Givens, Alicia (Alex Eads) Givens, Kaitlynne Ashby, Megan (Brian) McVay and many nieces and nephews; 11 great-grandchildren, Parker, T.J., Cole, Laihla, Madison, Liam, Gabbi, Conner, Landon, Braxton and Griffin James.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two great-grandchildren, Kainen Griffin and Kyleigh Rose Ashby.
Gene's celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ovid Community Church, 793 E. 600S, Anderson, with Pastor Keith Wooden officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with a veteran's Honor Guard tribute.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the church with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
