Samuel L. "Daddy Sammy" Watkins Sr. 88, made his peaceful transition from his earthly life on July 17, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends at his home.
Samuel Watkins Sr. was born March 8, 1929, to the late Samuel W. and Onie Watkins in Providence, Kentucky. He was the second youngest of eight children: Sarah, Amos, Virginia, Adella, Veola, Robert and Mae.
Samuel was a graduate of Anderson Senior High School. He had been employed by Lavelle Foundry and General Motors. He was a watch care member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.
Samuel always had time to listen to a good joke or to share his joy for life with his family and friends. He loved to eat, laugh, talk and keep track of his family actives. He enjoyed fishing, Ping-Pong, pool, carpentry and watching sports.
Samuel leaves to cherish his legacy and memory his children, Saundra J. Watkins, Samuel (Belinda) Watkins Jr., Daryl L. (Sherel) Watkins, Ricky D. (Joyce) Watkins and Neal (Debbie) Watkins; sister Veola (Veecy) Tinsley; sisters-in-law, Earline Dorothy, Lorna and Cornelius; brother-in-law, Johnny; and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellone Watkins; his parents; daughters, Marcia, Cheryl and Yvonne; brothers, Amos and Robert; and sisters, Sarah, Virginia, Aderra and Mae.
Services will be at noon Saturday at New Covenant Kingdom Ministries 2277 N. Madison Ave., Anderson and burial at Maplewood Cemetery.
Viewing is from 10 a.m. to noon prior to services.
