Shirley's Story

Text size

Shirley Ann Scherer, 70, Lapel, passed away Sept. 1, 2017, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 28, 1946, in Hamilton County, she was the daughter of Woodrow Albert and Thelma Louise (Gray) Scherer. After graduating from Lapel High School with the Class of 1964, she would go to work at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center, where she enjoyed a long and happy career. Shirley eventually retired from Fort Ben after more than 35 years of service. Retirement gave her more time to devote to traveling and spending time with her family. Family was a very important part of Shirley's life. Whatever activities, sports of otherwise, that her nieces and nephews were involved in, Shirley always made sure that she was a part of it. Shirley also liked working on craft projects, especially crocheting.
Shirley is survived by her three brothers, Steve Scherer (Rebecca) of Olean, Indiana, Garry "Buff" Scherer of Elwood and Jay D. Scherer (Jovy) of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn Sue; and sister-in-law, Marcia.
Private family services are being planned for a later date.
