Shirley's Story

Shirley Ann Willoughby, 82, Lapel, passed away Tuesday at her daughter's home following a four-month illness.
She was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Sullivan County, to William and Geneva (Beggerman) Figg.
Shirley graduated from Lapel High School in 1954.
She had worked at Brockway Glass in Lapel and also Creative Toys in Anderson.
Shirley enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and was an avid colorer. She adored playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Michael Willoughby, Renee Coomes and Cheryl (Joe) Green; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Latisha, Heather, Tony, Dwight, Jared, Josh, Mitch, Travis, and Haley; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Lacey and Wilma Girton; and several lifelong friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Fred; son, Roger; and sister, Marilyn Jacobs.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wright and staff and Kindred Hospice for their kind care of their mother.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel, with Josh Castor officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
