Sonja L. Hines, 82, departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017.
She was born June 3, 1935, to Juanita and Robert "Bud" Chambers. She was a graduate of Muncie Central, though she had attended Southern California in her earlier years.
Throughout her life, Sonja was a woman of passion and presence. She stood up for her views, shared her recognizable laugh with many, and spoke with a bold and articulate elegance. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a chef, a friend, an artist, and so much more to so many people. She will always be remembered for her bold character and energetic soul, but also for her many wonderful skill sets, such as being an incredible painter. Her bucolic countryside paintings are known for their gentle brushstrokes creating a sense of peace and liberation. Her appreciation of the arts and endless creativity also revealed themselves through her poetic writing, her lovely fashion sense, and the classy way in which she presented herself to others.
Sonja is survived by her husband, John R. Hines, of Muncie. She is also survived by her daughter, Robin M. Hicks (husband, Ronald); and son, R. Mike Hines (wife, Barbara). She is also survived by four granddaughters, Gwen, Morgan, Katie and
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Cameron Hicks.
She was taken from us unexpectedly but will always live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends. She may now live on in her own wonderful Heaven, which she created on her canvases for so many years, and we are blessed to have had her in all our lives.
We ask that any donations be made in her name to the Arthritis National Research Foundation, Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent's, or the Animal Rescue Fund of Muncie.
