Theada Wright Sr.
He was born to Sidney and Virginia Wright in Montgomery, Alabama, on July 23, 1923. He received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Troy Chapel in Alabama.
In 1936, he moved to Anderson and joined Wallace Temple AME Zion Church, where he served for 82 years. He served as chairman of the board of trustees and as a steward, and established a building fund to pay off the mortgage. He diligently used his skills to maintain the facility, and his name is listed on the cornerstone.
Theada was employed at General Motors for 32 years. While employed there, he enlisted in the Navy and received Naval World War II accommodations.
He was also the sexton at Central Christian Church for 16 years. He served as the first licensed black master plumbing contractor in Anderson and was entrepreneur of Wrights and Sons Plumbing. He was licensed in heating and cooling.
In 1948, he married the love of his life, Barbara Rudd, and were together 61 years. He and his wife were the proud King and Queen of the Anderson Black Expo in the '90s. They were also members of the Locks and Keys Social Club.
Theada volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for several years and Senior Saints of St. John's Hospital. His ministry was visiting patients in nursing homes throughout the city. He also loved to tell of his naval exploits. He was also an avid golfer.
He leaves to cherish his memory sons, Darrell Wright I and Bishop Jerryl Wright (Evangelist Josephine); daughters, Dr. Mae Gray (Jesse), and Truddie Evans (Charles Cottrell); brother, Lee Wright of Montgomery, Alabama; aunt Lena Bostic; grandchildren Jerryl II, Jerrell, Jason, Jermaine, Jamie, Justin, Jonathon Wright, Michael Pearson, Darrell II, Sidney, Darrin and James Townsend, Donavon Hopkins, Corey and DeCarlo Evans, April Austin, Tamika Winfrey, Tiffany, Trey and Theada Wright III; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife; son, Theada Wright Jr.; daughter, Sandra Wright Austin; grandson, Jeffery Wright; granddaughter, Darra Jo Wright; sisters, Daisy Gholston, Fannie Wright, Mae Emma Jordan and Lizzie Wright; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Service will be at noon Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Wallace Temple AME Zion, 1518 Forkner St. Pastor Antwaun Johnson will officiate, and Bishop Jerryl Wright will eulogize. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon prior to service with burial at Maplewood Cemetery. Service will be available on live stream at Glazebrooksfs.com.
