Thomas T. Thomas, 81, Alexandria, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Summit Convalescent Center in Summitville following an extended illness.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1936, to Chesley and Doris (Pritchard) Thomas. Tom was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1954. He also attended Franklin College in Franklin where he was member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was in the Black Horse Troop long ago at Culver Academy. He proudly served with the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He was the owner of Thomas Tax Service and Thomas Insurance in Alexandria.
He was a past president of the Alexandria Lions Club, a member and district deputy Alexandria Elks 478 and was treasurer of the Madison County Dramatic Players. He was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross and United Way. Tom was a lifetime member of Alexandria First Baptist church and volunteered frequently and served on various boards. His hobbies included anything to do with horses or his grandchildren. For many years, he showed horses and beef cattle at the 4-H fair. He proudly rode horses with his family as color guards in parades through Indiana.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Shelton) Thomas; son, Tommy (Jill McNary) Thomas; two beloved grandchildren, Lilly (12) and Blake (9); close cousin, Ann (Graham) DeVore and Roger of Columbus; and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt, Evelyn Graham.
Services honoring Tom's life, legacy and faith will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 Park Ave. Pastor Michael Deutsch and the Rev. Clifton Richardson will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call at the Alexandria First Baptist Church on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after noon on Tuesday prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First Baptist Church with envelopes available at the visitation and services.
Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria is handling arrangements for the Thomas family.
