Tomas's Story

Text size

Tomas Raudales, 89, of Anderson, passed away July 22, 2017, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.
Tomas was born on Feb. 21, 1928, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to Cayetano Figuero and Rosa Maria Raudales. He married Romelia Antunez de Raudales. They honeymooned on the beaches of Costa Rica and he promised to take care of her for life. He came to the United States in 1965 and permanently moved here in 1991 with his wife and family.
Tomas was a meticulous man who rose early, showered, put on his cologne, read the newspaper while drinking his Cuban coffee and enjoyed the day. He had a technical mind and enjoyed being a mechanic and chef. He enjoyed family picnics, holidays, music and playing dominoes.
Tomas instilled strong values in his children. He taught them how to dance and how to cook. They were not allowed to date until they were 18 and had earned a high school diploma. Those who wanted to marry one of his children had to pass the "bean snapping" test. He was quick to give genuine compliments, living life and enjoying his days.
Left to cherish Tomas' memory are his wife of 62 years, Romelia; children, Francisco Antunez, Gloria (Angie) Pitts, Martha (Cecy) Raudales, Guadalupe (Lupita) Ibarra, and Yuvany C. Raudales; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren in Indiana and Honduras.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Geraldina Raudales; and three brothers, Rogelio Raudales, Oscar Raudales and Edgardo Raudales,
Mass will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Church, with visitation one hour prior. Father Shine will preside.
