Virginia's Story

Virginia S. Barnes, 88, of Anderson, born June 21, 1929, in Madison, Indiana, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 8, 2017.
She was a teacher for Anderson Community Schools, retiring in 1990 from Valley Grove School and was a founding director of Sowers of Seeds Counseling Inc.
She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was a part of the Prayer Ministry. She volunteered for St. John's Hospice Program, CASA, AA with 31 years of sobriety and did drug and alcohol counseling at the Madison County Jail.
Ginny is survived by her children, Jan (Gayland) Swaim, and John (LeeAnn) Barnes; grandchildren, Shonne Swearingen, Shanna Swearingen, Darci (Jim) Miller, Derryk Swearingen, Justin Barnes, and Casey Barnes; great-grandchildren, Megan Swearingen, Morgan Cornett, Kassie Miller, James Miller II, Janna Swearingen, Kevin McCord II, Tyler Tipton, Sherry Swearingen and Jacob Brooks; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, special friends; and cats.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Williams Taylor; father, Clifton Stewart; husband of 27 years, Gene C. Barnes; son, James Barnes; and sister, Wanda (Harry) DeVol.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, followed by the service at 5 p.m. officiating by the Rev. Gary Cable.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.
