Von L. Waymire
April 20, 1931 - April 02, 2018
He was born April 20, 1931, in Tipton County, the son of Harold G. and Gladys Nell (Langston) Waymire. Von was a farmer all of his life, owning and operating the Von Waymire Farm north of Elwood where he credits his beginning to a gracious gift of farm ground from Maurice Pierce. He was a 1948 graduate of Swayzee High School. Von married the love of his life, Mary L. Derrickson, on Sept. 7, 1952, and they shared over 64 years of marriage together.
Von formerly sold John Deere farm equipment in Tipton and at Harper's in Swayzee; and sold International Harvester equipment for Frank Armstrong in North Manchester.
He was a member of Harmony Christian Church in Leisure, and attended Abundant Life Church in rural Kokomo. He served on numerous boards at Harmony Christian Church; served five years on the Madison-Grant school board; and was an active member of De-Molay as a young man. Von and Mary were nearly always together - raising their family and working on their family farm. Von loved all his family and farming, and entered the Heavenly gates after his family assured him the family farm would be just fine.
Von's family includes daughter, Kathy A. (husband, Robert Jr.) Sallee of Elwood; son, Monte B. (wife, Annette) Waymire of Fairmount; eight grandchildren, Jordan (wife, Katie) Schwab, Mallory (husband, Jake) Gillihan, Jed Waymire, Jeremy Kyle Waymire, Jacob Ryan Sallee, Jaquelyn Raye Sallee, Beth Ann Sallee, and Krista Lynn Sallee; five great-grandchildren, Riley Gillihan, Hailey Gillihan, Dylan Conwell, Jada Vincent, and Brennen Cordell Sallee; sisters-in-law, Wilma Witt of Westchester, Ohio, and Marjorie Spangler of Anderson. Von was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary L. Waymire in 2017; and brother, Kyle B. Waymire who died in an accident in 1945.
A funeral service celebrating Von's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018, at Harmony Christian Church in Leisure with Pastors Ron Meyer and Charlie Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Knox Chapel Cemetery in rural Fairmount. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Harmony Christian Church in Leisure.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home is entrusted with Von's funeral arrangements.
