GREENFIELD [mdash] Walter F. Tompkins, 85, Greenfield, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at Rawlins House in Pendleton.
He was born in Corbin, Kentucky, on July 26, 1933, to Roscoe B. and Edith (Coffman) Tompkins. He graduated from Corbin High School in 1951 and attended University of Kentucky. Walter married Edna Faye (Reynolds) on April 30, 1955, in London, Kentucky.
He was the manager at Hadsell Tire in Anderson for 19 years and also worked for Firestone and General Tire for more than 45 years before retiring in 1998. Walter was a member of Alexandria First Baptist Church in Alexandria. He liked spending time outdoors and gardening.
Walter is survived by his son, Ray (Kaye) Bradley Tompkins of Bessemer, Alabama; daughter, Dr. Michelle (Brian) Tompkins-Arrowood of Greenfield; and five grandchildren, Paige Arrowood, Kyle Arrowood, Haley Arrowood, Maggie Tompkins, and Katie Tompkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. and Edith Tompkins; wife, Edna Tompkins; brother, Bernard Tompkins; half sister, Ava June Freeman; and half brother, Charles Ray Tompkins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Highway 40, Greenfield.
A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to Riley Children's Health, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Room 4510, Indianapolis, IN 46202, or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
