William D. Bender, 78, previously of Alexandria, passed away on Feb. 1, 2018 in Crossville, Tennessee after a brief illness.
He was born on April 3, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Beatrice (Bliss) Bender.
Bill moved to Anderson while he was in high school, and graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1957.
He married Judith E. (Berry) Gooding in 1962, and was married for 53 years.
He was employed by Marsh Supermarkets, where he worked as a department manager and a store manager at their 53rd Street and Nichol Avenue locations and retired in 2001 after 39 years of service.
Over the years, Bill was active in Kiwanis, Madison County Scottish Rite and the former Solar Masonic Lodge #734, where he served as Past Master. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and vacationing in Wisconsin, but most importantly he loved to spend time with his family.
Bill is survived by his loving step-daughter, Tamara (Doug) Morrical of Crossville, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2015; father in 1971; mother in 2006; and brother, Howard Bender in 2013.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St., Anderson, IN, with Rev. Gary Klinger officiating.
Burial of ashes will take place in the Gardens of Willowcrest Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation or Lewy Body Dementia Association.
