William R. "Ralph" Gillam, 88, of Elwood, died Nov. 15, 2017, in Elwood.
He was born April 10, 1929, in Elwood, to Ora and Martha (McQuitty) Gillam. Ralph worked at Delco Remy in Anderson for 36 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Frankton High School, and married Bernice E. Parr on April 15, 1950.
Ralph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elwood and United Auto Workers Local 662. He enjoyed bowling, raising racing pigeons, carpentry, woodworking, and built his own home. After retirement, he took up oil painting and taught himself to play the organ.
His family includes four children, William (Claudia) Gillam of Elwood, Larry (Pam) Gillam of Elwood, Randy (Cindy) Gillam of Tipton, and Melinda (Kent) Sharp of Elwood; daughter-in-law, Brenda Gillam of Elwood; brother, Dannie Gillam of Elwood; sisters-in-law, Marge (husband Ebe) Cotton of Fishers, Shirley Rohrer of Carmel, Carolyn Plake of Tipton, and Sondra Parr of Kokomo; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and another expected in March; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Philip Gillam; brothers, John Gillam, Don Gillam, Dale Gillam; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Gillam.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at St. Joseph Church in Elwood with Father Dan Duff officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Elwood.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
