William's Story

William M. (Bill) Scribner, 75, Alexandria, passed away peacefully in his home, Jan. 6, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family, after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1941 in Alexandria, to Theresa (Watson) and William O. Scribner. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School class of 1959.
On May 12, 1962, Bill married Deanna Runyon and together they had four children, Paige Renee Arnett (Michael), Collette De-Anne Rohrbacher (Michael), William Matthew Scribner and Summer Maurisa Stansberry (Danny).
In 1965, with $200, a week's vacation and a dream, Bill started Detail Tool and Die Co, and for 46 years owned and operated a successful business. He was one of the most talented in his field and, under his watchful eye, training many young apprentices became skilled tool and die makers.
Bill enjoyed spending his time off with his family at his lake house, he also enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada but his favorite pastime was racing. He followed the NASCAR Circuit and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was also a dedicated coach and mentor to many over the years. His wisdom, guidance and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Bill is survived by his children, daughters, Paige Arnett, Collette Rohrbacher, Summer Stansberry, all of Alexandria; son, Matt Scribner, Anderson; sister, Mary Allen, of Tacoma, Wash; granddaughter, Brogan Elliot, of Chesterfield; granddaughters Bailee Scribner, of Anderson, Rylee Sturm, of Alexandria, Danielle Stansberry, of Alexandria; grandsons Alex Scribner, of Anderson, Drew Campbell and Devin Stansberry of Alexandria; great-grandson Hayden Elliot and a great-granddaughter Brynnae Elliot, both of Chesterfield; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Let us not forget Man's best friend, his beloved four-legged friend, Miles, who never left his side and provided him comfort and companionship.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Theresa Scribner; his loving wife Deanna Scribner; and beloved daughter-in-law Julie Scribner.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison Street, Alexandria with Rosary to take place at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 820 W Madison St. Alexandria, celebrated by Father Dan Duff. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery at Alexandria.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary's building fund or the Animal Protection League through the funeral home.
